A native of Middletown, Ohio, Lori Patai started dancing at the age of three. Throughout her childhood and adolescent years, Lori studied ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, and tumbling. She traveled all over the US taking class from nationally known choreographers and dancers including the late Al Gilbert, Joe Tremaine, Ken Prescott from the Broadway production of ‘The Tap Dance Kid’, the late Frank Hatchett from The Broadway Dance Center, Dianne Walker, Ted Levy, Karen Hebert and Gus Giordano to name a few.
Her dance skills, poise and demeanor opened the door for Lori to become a 2-time contestant in the Miss Ohio Scholarship Pageant by earning the titles of Miss Greater Cincinnati and Miss Lorain County. She won the George Martin Most Talented Non-Finalist Award at Miss Ohio 1996. Lori and her students were guest performers for several local Miss Ohio Preliminaries and during Miss Ohio week festivities.
Lori’s successes are both personal and professional. As a dance student she won multiple regional and national titles at a wide variety of competitions. After her formal education, Lori used her talents to foster success in students of her own. She was a modeling and pageant coach for over 10 years and has been the owner and artistic director for D and L Dance Center in Middletown, OH from 1997 -1999 and in the Waterford Lakes area of East Orlando for over 18 years. She was the Medical Chair for the National Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant from 2006-2011.
Lori feels strongly about keeping current with trends in the dance industry while strongly maintaining that choreography, costuming and music selection should be appropriate for the age of the well-rounded dancer.
